Code of Conduct and General Policies
Swimmer Code of Conduct
These are the expectations for swimmers that we will go over together and strive to achieve as a team.
- We look and listen when the coaches talk
- We work as a team
- We are good sports
- We keep our hands to ourselves
- We build each other up with our words and our actions
- We know that “no” means no and “stop” means stop
- We ask for help when we need it
- We don’t say “can’t”; we say “try”
- We take care of ourselves and our equipment
- We treat others the way we wanted to be treated.
General Policies
- Facility Rules:
All swimmers and visitors must obey facility rules, lifeguards, and staff. We are guests at the facility and must respect all regulations. - Supervision:
Please remain with your child until they are with a coach. Do not send children into the facility or pool unaccompanied. - Arrival Time:
Team talk and dry land time start at 1:45 PM. Please arrive early enough for your child to be ready. - Electronic Communication:
Swimmers should not communicate with Sea Dragons coaches or staff via electronic means. - Behavior:
Inappropriate behaviors such as foul language, inappropriate comments, bullying, and physical or verbal abuse towards the coach, staff, or other swimmers by a swimmer or parent will not be tolerated. This may result in the swimmer’s or family’s termination from the team. - Service Refusal:
Sea Dragons Swim Team reserves the right to refuse services at our discretion, including for non-payment or inappropriate behavior, without a refund or credit. - Fees:
Your Sea Dragons fees cover the time the swimmer is at practice or a meet. Swim passes for others and for other times are available at the front desk.
Correction Policy
We will make time and space (and a sensory bin!) for those who need to “take a minute” to calm their minds and bodies before resuming participation. It will be assumed that everyone will need to “take a minute” at some point during the season- whether initiated by themselves or a coach- because we believe learning to regulate ourselves is a normal and healthy part of the human experience.
The policy below is for behaviors that harm others or deliberately disobey a coach’s clear instructions, and is in place to keep practices safe and productive!
Warnings and Sit Out
- First Warning: For a first offense, a swimmer will receive a warning.
- Second Warning: If the behavior continues, they will receive a second warning.
Sit Out:
If the swimmer repeats the behavior after two warnings, the swimmer will be sat out for an age-appropriate amount of time. This gives the swimmer time to calm themselves, the coach time to move the team into the next activity, and the coach and swimmer time to talk if needed.
Parent Notification and Sent Home
If a swimmer is sat out twice, the third instance may result in their parent being called, and the swimmer may be sent home from practice.
Season Suspension
If a swimmer is sent home more than twice in a season, coaches may cancel that swimmer’s participation for the remainder of the season.
Pick Up Policy
This policy is in place to protect all of our swimmers and to provide peace of mind for parents and guardians. Thank you for your cooperation!
Family Identification Number:
- Each family will be assigned a unique random number. Only individuals who can provide this number will be allowed to pick up your child/ren.
- Initially, we will ask for the number at every pick-up. Once we start to recognize the regular people who pick up your kids, we may simply wave them through. However, it’s essential that anyone different (such as a grandparent or babysitter) who is picking up your child knows the number.
Security, Changes, and Unauthorized Pick-Up:
- If at any point you feel your family’s number has been compromised, please let us know and we will assign a new number.
- Children will not be released to anyone who does not have your family’s assigned number or who is not otherwise authorized.
- If there are specific people who should not be allowed to pick up your kids, please inform us so we can take the necessary precautions.
- If someone attempts to pick up your child/ren without the correct number, we will call you to confirm their authorization before releasing your child/ren.
- If an unauthorized individual insists on picking up a child, we will immediately contact the parents/guardians. If necessary, local authorities will be involved to ensure the child’s safety.
Late Pick-Up Policy
This policy ensures that our practices run smoothly and that our staff can manage their time effectively. We appreciate your cooperation in picking up your children on time.
- Children should be picked up promptly at 3:00 pm.
- If a child is picked up after 3:10 pm, a late fee of $10 will be charged.
- An additional fee of $2 per minute will be added for each minute after 3:10 pm.
- If parents/guardians are unreachable by 3:15 pm, we will contact the emergency contacts provided during registration.
